The horrific fire broke out at a hotel in Birbhum district of West Bengal, India.
Two fire service vehicles were sent to the scene after receiving the news of the fire. Later, the firefighters started working to control the fire. However, the cause of the fire was not immediately known. The work of extinguishing the fire is underway.
Kolkata-based media outlet Anandabazar says that a fire broke out at Hotel ‘Bideshini’ in front of the Tarapith temple in Birbhum district. At least six pilgrims died due to burns. They had gone to Tarapith to offer puja during the month of Shravan. Several people were seriously injured in the fire.
It is learned that the fire broke out on the first floor below the five-story hotel building on Monday morning. It is initially believed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. Later, the fire quickly spread to different rooms. Most of the hotel guests were sleeping at the time. Children were also in the hotel. Before they knew it, the fire spread far and wide. As a result, many people were trapped inside the rooms.
Hotel owner Kalyan Pal said, “Our night watchmen activated the fire extinguisher as soon as they saw the fire. They disconnected the power supply cable. But by then the fire had spread. Even though the firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire, smoke rose to the fifth floor. Many people started coming out of the house in panic. Many people were burned as they could not find the exit door.”
