Family members of US Navy personnel aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, one of the world’s most powerful aircraft carriers, have claimed that the morale of the sailors has reached rock bottom. Not only that, but some of them have become deranged. Some have even been consumed by thoughts of death.
The USS Lincoln was scheduled to go on leave in May 2026. But the Pentagon extended that period. In the first week of August, families of at least 200 soldiers deployed there met with acting US Navy Secretary Hang Kao to discuss the issue. There, they erupted in anger.
The US Navy organized a ceremony at the San Diego Town Hall. There, Hang Kao was surrounded by relatives of the soldiers stationed in Lincoln. US officials tried hard to convince them. But they were not swayed. On the contrary, some of the family members accused them of a breach of trust.
The nuclear-powered USS Abraham Lincoln began its career in the US Navy in 1989. More than 5,000 sailors are deployed on the warship. Initially, this warship roamed the Pacific Ocean. Later, the Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Department of War, sent her to other parts of the world.
The USS Abraham Lincoln departed from the San Diego Naval Base in the United States on November 21 last year. The aircraft carrier was scheduled to head to the Red Sea. However, in February this year, the warship’s route changed overnight when the US and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran.
The Pentagon sent the USS Lincoln to the Sea of Oman to surround Iran. The sailors deployed there have only had two days of rest during this long journey. The aircraft carrier first stopped in Guam in December 2025. The second time, in July this year, the warship was seen in the port of Oman for 24 hours.
In January 2025, the Washington think tank ‘Center for Maritime Strategy’ published a research report. They claim that no other warship in the history of the US Navy has spent so much time at sea as the Lincoln. Therefore, it is not at all surprising to see physical disabilities or mental disorders among the soldiers deployed on the warship.
