Various areas of Chittagong city have been submerged again due to heavy rains. Waterlogging has occurred. The city residents have been facing extreme hardship.
Patenga Meteorological Office official Ismail Bhuiyan said that 189 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in the previous 24 hours till Monday morning. Of this, 109 millimeters of rainfall occurred from 6 am to 9 am. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in Chittagong and surrounding areas throughout the day today. A warning message has been issued to the district administration expressing the fear of landslides.
Various low-lying areas of the city, including Muradpur, Bahaddarhat, Chawkbazar, Baklia, Katalganj, Kapasgola and Agrabad, have been submerged in the rain.
Office-going people and students were left in distress in the morning. In some places, knee-deep water disrupted vehicular movement. City residents have complained about rickshaws charging extra fares on this occasion. In some places, rainwater has entered shops and business establishments.
Habib, a resident of Khaja Road in Bahaddarhat, said, “Even with a little rain, water rises to our ground floor. It was very difficult to take my child to school this morning.”
