Major reshuffle in Iran’s military leadership, Mojtaba Khamenei is receiving praise

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), has praised the recent reshuffle in Iran’s military leadership, saying the decisions taken by Supreme Leader Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei will further strengthen the country’s defense capabilities.

In a message to Khamenei, Rezaei said the appointment of six senior commanders to key positions in the army and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was a “far-sighted” and “timely” decision.

Rezaei said the appointments have brought about a major change in the calculations of Iran’s enemies, particularly disrupting the plans of US and Israeli leaders.

Rezaei’s message came after recent military appointments. Earlier, Khamenei appointed Major General Ali Abdollahi as Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and Major General Ahmad Vahidi as Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC.

In addition, Rear Admiral Ali Ozmai has been appointed commander of the IRGC’s navy. Hossein Taib, a senior cleric who has long served in the IRGC’s intelligence branch, has been appointed head of the IRGC’s Basij force.

Analysts say the reshuffle was made to further strengthen the wartime security system.

According to them, the military leadership has been brought in by individuals who have direct experience in war and security management.

The IRGC plays a key role in Iran’s military and security structure, and analysts believe the recent appointments are an attempt to bring the country’s security structure under more combat-experienced leadership.
