Oil prices have increased worldwide, including in the United States, due to the impact of the Iran war. In such a situation, US President Donald Trump has urged US citizens to accept the higher oil prices.
The comments highlight the growing political risk for Trump, as rising oil prices clash with his campaign promise to reduce energy costs, as Democrats try to make the economic impact of the Iran war an issue ahead of the November midterm elections.
“Americans are paying a little more for their gasoline,” Trump said in a speech in the Garden City. “But they should remember that this price is being paid to ensure that a ‘very evil country’ does not get nuclear weapons.”
Trump said, “What we’re doing is a great thing, not just for ourselves, but for the world… and we’re doing a really great thing.” He added that he would never apologize for attacking Iran.
About 20 percent of global oil and LNG shipments typically pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been disrupted since the Iran war.
