A 5.1 magnitude earthquake has struck Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi province.
The earthquake struck at 9:46 p.m. local time on Sunday at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), with its epicenter in Buol regency. The tremors were also felt in Central Sulawesi and neighboring Gorontalo province, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said.
Mohd Khakfi Mardjun, head of the Buol Disaster Management Agency, said initial reports indicated that government buildings, a hospital, a restaurant and several homes were damaged.
He said one patient died while being evacuated to a safe place at the hospital.
Authorities said efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage, while temporary shelters are being set up for the victims and emergency relief supplies are being distributed.
