Additional Director General of the Department of Environment Ziaul Haque said, “There is no alternative to raising children to be environmentally aware to address climate change, environmental pollution and biodiversity crises. The future of a green Bangladesh will be built in the hands of these children.”
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the award ceremony of the children’s drawing competition organized by the Climate Action and Justice Foundation (CAJF) at the ongoing environmental fair premises in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Tuesday.
Ziaul Haque said, “If a child can be raised to be responsible towards nature, plants, rivers and canals and the environment from an early age, he will play an important role in the development of the country and society as a conscious citizen in the future. Protecting the environment is not only the responsibility of the government; it is the collective responsibility of families, educational institutions and every person in society.”
He said, if those present as parents today set an example of environmentally friendly behavior in front of their children, then that education will be the foundation of the children’s future lives.
The Additional Director General said, “Today’s small awareness will build a beautiful, clean and livable Bangladesh in the future. He called on everyone to come forward to protect the environment to ensure a safe world for future generations.”
Prominent social worker and businessman SM Raihan (Tonu) and Ahsan Rony of Green Savers were special guests at the award ceremony presided over by CAJF founder and chairman Arifuzzaman Mamun.
CAJF Secretary General Raoman Smita, executive members Mohsina Shawon, Murshida Khatun, Borhan Uddin, Mehedi Hasan Khan Topu and Mohiuddin Khan were present.
Earlier, more than fifty children from different areas of the capital participated in a painting competition organized at the Environment Fair premises to create environmental awareness among children. At the end of the competition, each participant was given a certificate and a sapling. In addition, special prizes were given to the best 15 children. The event was supported by the Global Law Thinkers Society and Zia Art Gallery.
