Pro-Palestinian activists in the Netherlands have protested against the import of goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The protesters gathered in front of a distribution center for imported goods produced in these settlements.
At the same time, they demanded a ban on products produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The protest took place in front of the Israel Product Center, run by the Dutch evangelical organization Christians for Israel, which a recently published study found has been donating billions of dollars to Israeli settlements.
“It’s hard to believe that people are still selling such products. These products are being produced on occupied land. This is occupied territory,” protester Marij van Deutek told Al Jazeera.
The Netherlands is one of four European Union countries to ban imports of goods from illegal Israeli settlements. Spain has already banned such products, while Ireland and Belgium have also enacted trade embargo laws.
However, the decision to take its own action on this issue as a coalition of European Union countries has been postponed until the end of the year.
The Netherlands’ ban is scheduled to take effect on September 22.
