A one-and-a-half-year-old child named Raisa Akhtar drowned in a pond in Ramganj, Laxmipur. The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the house of Siraj Mia in Bholakot village of Bholakot union of the upazila. The deceased, Raisa Akhtar, is the granddaughter of Siraj Mia and the daughter of Khokon Mia, a resident of that house.
According to eyewitnesses, on Wednesday afternoon, while looking for her mother, child Raisa accidentally slipped and fell into the pond behind the house.
After not seeing her daughter for a long time, her mother, Lucky Begum, started searching. At one point, her family members came to rescue Raisa from the pond and took her to a local doctor, who declared her dead. Later, the child’s uncle, Sumon Hossain, took her to the nearby Chatkhil Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty also declared the child dead.
Confirming the incident, Main Uddin Kajal, the ward member (UP member) of Bholakot Union, said that the child died after falling into the pond behind the house while searching for his mother. The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the area.
