Police have arrested a man in Sirajganj for allegedly defrauding more than 100 people of Tk 21 lakh through online investment scams while claiming to be a 400-year-old “King of Jinn.”
The accused, identified as Abdul Hamid, 33, was arrested following an investigation into a fraud case filed by a local woman. According to police, he persuaded victims to invest in online platforms, including apps named Eco Volt and CEF, by promising unusually high returns.
Investigators said Hamid initially collected around Tk 11 lakh from investors through the Eco Volt platform. He later convinced victims to invest an additional Tk 6 lakh through another app and reportedly collected a further Tk 4 lakh after offering new profit opportunities when the original platform became inactive.
Based on intelligence information, police arrested the suspect from Bonbaria village under Solonga Police Station. Authorities said legal proceedings are underway as the investigation continues.
