A teenage boy was killed in Cox’s Bazar’s Eidgaon upazila after a dispute over unpaid money escalated into violence, police said on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Hamid (17), was the son of Abul Kalam from the Lorabagh area. The incident took place around 10:30 AM when he asked his friend Shamin to repay money he was owed.
According to local chairman Alamgir Taj Jony, both Hamid and Shamin were neighbors and close friends. Hamid worked as a mobile repair technician, while Shamin drove a local “tomtom” (three-wheeler).
Witnesses said an argument broke out between the two, which quickly turned violent. At one point, Shamin allegedly stabbed Hamid in the abdomen and fled the scene.
Locals later chased and detained Shamin along with his mother and sister before handing them over to police. Officers from Eidgaon Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge A.T.M. Sifatul Majdar, arrested the suspects and recovered the weapon used in the attack.
Police said legal proceedings are underway.
