Bangladesh recorded a total of 93,67,418 sacrificial animals during this year’s Eid-ul-Adha, according to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.
The information was shared at a press briefing held at the ministry’s conference room in the Secretariat on Thursday (June 4), where State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku presented the preliminary report on nationwide Qurbani activities.
According to the ministry, the total demand for sacrificial animals this year was 1,01,06,334, while the available supply stood at 1,23,33,840, resulting in a surplus of 29,66,422 animals. Officials said that domestic farmers fully met the national demand for sacrificial animals this year.
Breakdown of the slaughtered animals includes 48,64,158 cattle and buffaloes, 45,02,233 goats and sheep, and 1,027 other animals. Compared to the previous year, the number of sacrificed animals increased by 2,31,418.
Region-wise data shows that Dhaka division recorded the highest number of sacrifices at 23,51,666, followed by Rajshahi with 23,42,869. Other divisions include Chattogram (17,34,025), Rangpur (10,50,554), Khulna (8,46,005), Barishal (4,00,160), Mymensingh (3,67,818), and Sylhet (2,74,321).
Officials also noted that strong domestic production, government policy support, and increased investment in the livestock sector contributed to meeting the full national demand for sacrificial animals this year.
Senior officials including the Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Md. Delwar Hossain and the Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md. Shahjahan Khan were present at the briefing.
