174 Bangladeshi nationals trapped in Libya have returned home. They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Libya’s Buraq Air flight UZ-222 at around 6 am on Tuesday. The returnees include three women, one child, and 15 sick people.
They were safely and humanely repatriated from the Ganfuda Detention Center in Benghazi, with the initiative of the Bangladesh Embassy and the cooperation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
It is known that these Bangladeshis tried to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe in an irregular way in the hope of a better life. However, they were rescued or detained during the sea operation. Later, they spent a long time in inhumane conditions in the Ganfouda Detention Center in Libya.
