The US State Department has released a detailed list of specific targets for previously announced comprehensive sanctions against Iran, which aim to curb Tehran’s military capabilities, drone and missile programs, cyberattacks and illicit oil trade.
The State Department statement said that the new restrictions include key Iranian military officials and several entities, particularly those involved in acquiring weapons and directing attacks on US forces, and entities that have been collecting intelligence to target the US and its regional allies.
The statement also noted that a procurement ring supplying equipment to Iran’s military and missile programs has been blacklisted. In addition, strict sanctions have been imposed on a large cargo shipping company and intermediary network involved in the transport and trade of Iranian energy products through the United Arab Emirates, China, Singapore and Europe.
The State Department also said that the FBI recently indicted eight Iranian nationals for cyberattacks on critical U.S. infrastructure. It reiterated a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the identification of five top cyberattackers in response to this cyberthreat.
In a statement, the US State Department made it clear that the United States is committed to disrupting and exposing Iran’s military plots, cyberattacks, and illicit oil trade. At the same time, it called on the international community to work with Washington to hold those responsible for these criminal activities accountable.
