An illegal gas connection has been disconnected in the Madhya Karar Char area, a well-known industrial area in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi. A fine of 5.5 lakh taka has been imposed for the incident.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Narsingdi district administration conducted a special operation in the area based on a secret tip-off and arrested Awal Bhuiyan and his son. Titas Gas Transmission Narsingdi office manager (emergency) Ahmed Ullah confirmed the illegal disconnection and fine.
The operation was conducted from Tuesday afternoon to evening. Additional District Magistrate Md. Sajjad Hossain and Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate FM. Naeem Hasan Shuvo of Narsingdi District Administration were responsible for the operation.
The mobile court inspected the multi-storey buildings in the Medina Jute Mill area and found that stoves were being operated with illegal gas connections in each building for years. During this time, a raid was conducted in each building and the illegal connections were disconnected.
Four cases were filed against people involved in illegal gas connections through mobile courts.
After the arrest of the owner of the house and the main organizer of the gas connection in the area, Awal Bhuiyan was fined Tk 2 lakh, Roushan Akhter Tk 40,000, Md. Muslem Mia Tk 1 lakh and Mukta Tk 2 lakh.
At that time, Titas Gas Narsingdi office manager (emergency) Ahmed Ullah said that the owners of these houses have been illegally using gas connections secretly. It is estimated that the government has lost about 13 million taka in revenue due to using gas through illegal connections for about 5 years.
