RAB-10 has arrested four members of a kidnapping gang for allegedly kidnapping auto-rickshaw driver Md. Sundar Ali (46) in South Keraniganj, Dhaka, and demanding a ransom of Tk 2 lakh from his family. In the same operation, Sundar Ali was rescued with his hands and feet tied from a locked house in Shubhadhya area.
The arrested persons are Md. Quddus Mia (38), Md. Jewel Rana alias Kutta Jewel (40), Md. Rakib Howlader (26) and Md. Apu Mir alias Bayzid (35).
RAB-10 Additional Superintendent of Police (Law Officer) Sonali Sen gave this information at a press conference held at the RAB-10 headquarters in Rajendrapur, Keraniganj on Tuesday (July 21) morning.
He told the press conference that Sundar Ali left his house on Sunday afternoon (July 19) with the intention of visiting his daughter for the purpose of his second marriage. When he reached the Dharmashur area on his way from Golambazar to Ramerkanda, the kidnappers stopped his autorickshaw. Later, he was beaten up and forcibly taken to Ramerkanda Balur Math area. There, he was drugged and threatened with a ransom of Tk 2 lakh from his family. Later, at night, he was taken to the rented house of accused Rakib Hawladhar in Shubhadhya area and locked in a room. At that time, Tk 44,000 was collected from the family members in cash in two installments, but he was not released. Instead, more money was demanded by threatening to kill him.
Sonali Sen said that after the victim’s relatives filed a written complaint with the South Keraniganj Police Station, RAB-10 conducted a raid using information technology and intelligence surveillance. Sundar Ali was rescued from a rented house in the Shubhadhya area on Monday afternoon. At the same time, four people involved in the kidnapping were arrested.
RAB said that there are four cases against arrested Quddus Mia, including one for preparation of robbery and under the Arms Act, five drug cases against Jewel Rana, one for preparation of robbery against Rakib Howlader, and four cases against Apu Mir for extortion, preparation of robbery, and under the Women and Children Abuse Act. Legal action is underway against them.
