With clouds rolling across the sky and torrential rain, it’s the perfect time to plant seedlings. And what better place to buy seedlings than at the tree fair? As always, the tree fair is being held at the old trade fair grounds in Agargaon, Dhaka.
This year’s fair grounds are bustling with 120 stalls. The main entrance to the fair is located in the middle of the fair grounds. Since there is no direct connection between the main gate and the main road, visitors have to enter from the side of the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center or from the far end of the fair.
When you enter the fair, the colorful fruits hanging from the trees catch your eye more than the flowers. Among the mangoes, there are many varieties of colorful mangoes, including the red-pink Chiangmai, King Ab Chakapat, Japanese Miyazaki, American Red Palmer, and many others. Although not colorful, the green, cone-shaped Brunei King is particularly eye-catching because of its weight—each weighing up to five kilograms.
Like mango, the national fruit jackfruit hangs from the trees. There is the perennial Vietnamese jackfruit, which is non-glutinous. You will also see colorful rambutan, latkan, pomegranate, jam, avocado, Egyptian fig, kamaranga, safeda, deua, bilati gab, ata, sarifa, lemon, batabilebu, amalaki and many other fruit trees.
Flowers range from roses to daisies, gerberas, alaknanda, kathrolap, garden roses, and aquatic flowers like lotus and water lilies. There are orchids of all colors that bloom in the air without soil. Just as there are green cactus surrounded by thorns, there are also cactuses with colorful crown heads.
Not only trees, there are organic fertilizers such as potting soil, coco peat, perlite, and vermicompost or earthworm fertilizer required for planting trees. There is a collection of ceramic, plastic, and earthen pots with special drainage to prevent water from accumulating in the pot during the rainy season. You will get various accessories necessary for the garden, including sickles, hoe, shovel, gloves, watering cans, and more. You will also get free gardening advice.
An environmental fair with 60 stalls is set up next to the tree fair. This seven-day fair will continue until July 15. In addition to the exhibition and sales center of various environmentally friendly products, there is an agricultural advisory center. There are cultural performances every afternoon. If you get tired of walking around the fair, you can sit here and enjoy a cup of coffee.
This fair, which started on July 9, will continue till August 9. It is open from 9 am to 8 pm. There is no entry fee to the fair, take your time and visit it.
