The death toll from devastating floods in Nepal has risen to 160. Police in the country say 160 bodies have been recovered so far after the floods. Earlier, authorities had put the death toll at 100. BBC reports.
Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Office said the search and rescue operation, led by the country’s army, would continue through the night. 1,697 personnel have been deployed for the task, with another 656 on standby for additional operations.
Six military helicopters and 12 more were rescued by five civilian helicopters throughout the day on Wednesday. In addition, ground rescue teams rescued 27 more people.
The Prime Minister’s Office also said that 800 kg of tents and 200 kg of medical supplies have been delivered to the affected areas. A large number of people stranded in the upper Timur area will be evacuated by air on Thursday morning.
