Tourism Canada says 24 Canadians are missing after flash floods hit Nepal. Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed readiness to help the country after the floods. He said, “Canada is ready to help Nepal.”
In a post on social media, Carney said the flash floods on the banks of the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal were “absolutely horrific.”
He said Canadians are thinking of people in danger from disasters, families who have lost loved ones, and those who are still waiting for news about their loved ones.
He also urged Canadian citizens residing in the area to register their presence as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Nepal’s tourism board said that 24 Canadians were reported missing in the country after the floods.
The World Health Organization has also sent emergency medical supplies after the floods in Nepal. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that WHO has collected and sent essential emergency medical supplies to the affected areas. He also expressed deep respect and gratitude to the rescuers for their “selfless” work.
The WHO had earlier said it was providing medicines and multi-purpose tents to Nepal. The organization is also working to monitor public health risks, strengthen disease surveillance, and ensure essential health care for the affected population.
