Leaders of Aditmari Upazila BNP and its affiliated organizations held a press conference raising serious allegations of corruption, irregularities and breach of party discipline against Lalmonirhat-2 (Aditmari-Kaliganj) MP Rokon Uddin Babul. Rokon Uddin Babul is the vice-president of Lalmonirhat district BNP.
Former Upazila BNP member secretary Salekuzzaman Pramanik read a written speech at a press conference at the Aditmari Upazila BNP office on Monday afternoon.
In a written statement, he said that since being elected as a member of parliament, he has been pursuing his own interests without paying attention to the party mainstream and senior leaders. In addition, he is conducting development activities as per his wishes in collusion with the Jatiya Party, the banned Awami League, Jamaat-e-Islam and vested interests, which is severely tarnishing the image of BNP.
The complaint further states that after the election, MP Rokon Uddin Babul did not hold any kind of evaluation meeting or meet the common people of the area. On the contrary, in defiance of the instructions of the center and Trinamool, an illegal meeting has been called on August 18 at the Aditmari GS Model School and College ground under the name of the party, about which the main leaders of the main BNP and its affiliates know nothing.
Citing a recent incident, the written statement said that the program organized on the occasion of Begum Khaleda Zia’s birthday on August 15 was declared over after the scheduled time of 11 am. But later, on the instructions of the MP, the Aditmari Upazila party office was broken open at noon and another meeting was held unexpectedly, which angered the Trinamool leaders and activists.
District BNP Joint General Secretary Habibur Rahman Habib, Aditmari Upazila BNP former joint convener Nadirul Islam Islam Manik, former district volunteer party member Abu Yahia Yunus Ahmed, Aditmari Upazila Jubo Dal convener Hasanul Banna, member secretary Abu Bakkar, Upazila Volunteer Party convener Shahariar Alam Roni, Upazila Chhatra Dal convener Abdul Halim and other leaders and activists from various levels were present at the press conference.
On Monday night, MP Rokon Uddin Babul said, “Some leaders, unable to fulfill their personal interests, have raised false and fabricated allegations against me. Trinamool BNP leaders and activists are in regular contact with me and they have no allegations against me.”
