Police have arrested a man on charges of raping a schoolgirl (11) in Raiganj Upazila of Sirajganj. The name of the person arrested on charges of raping the schoolgirl is Md. Hanif Sheikh (40). Police arrested him on Sunday afternoon. Later, he was shown arrested in a case filed in this incident.
According to police and local sources, the victim is a student of a local government primary school. The accused, Hanif Sheikh, is a resident of the same upazila.
The case report states that Hanif took the child to an abandoned tin house near the school and raped him. The family has alleged that the accused had raped the child before. The child had kept the matter a secret for so long out of fear that he would kill the child if she told anyone about the incident. After noticing the child’s unusual behavior and physical illness for a few days, her mother questioned her. After that, the child told the incident. When the family members tricked Hanif Sheikh yesterday and called the national emergency service number (999), the police of Salanga police station went to the spot and arrested him.
Solanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aslam Ali told Prothom Alo that a case was filed last night in this incident. Arrangements are being made for the necessary medical treatment and health check-up for the victim child.
