Two Chatra Dal leaders expelled for holding a young man hostage and demanding ransom

The Upazila Chhatra Dal has expelled two leaders of the party for allegedly holding a young man captive in a secluded place in Bhola’s Borhanuddin, beating him and demanding a ransom of Tk 1 million.

This information was given in a press release signed by Borhanuddin Upazila Chhatra Dal President Danish Chowdhury and General Secretary Tanzil Howlader on Tuesday.

The expelled members are Tabgi Union Chhatra Dal’s organizing secretary Md. Mehedi Hasan Palin and deputy office secretary Md. Emon Hawlader.

The notice stated that Pauline and Emon have been permanently expelled from organizational activities, including primary membership, based on specific allegations of moral turpitude and breach of organizational discipline.

The victim, Md. Al-Mamun Mithu, alleged that on August 15, he was taken to a secluded place and beaten up on the pretext of a birthday invitation. Later, an objectionable video of him was recorded under threat and a ransom of Tk 1 million was demanded by threatening to spread it. He also alleged that cash, mobile banking money and a gold chain were snatched from him during this time. He has filed a written complaint with Borhanuddin Police Station regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, Mehdi Hasan Palin and Emon Howlader denied the allegations, saying, “The allegations against them are completely false and fabricated. They did not take any money.”

Borhanuddin Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said, “The complaint has been received. The matter is under investigation and legal action will be taken if the truth is found.”
