Police have recovered the floating body of an elderly man named Razzak Matubbar (90) from a pond in Shibchar, Madaripur. Locals saw the body floating in a pond adjacent to Bagmara Bazar Road in the upazila on Tuesday evening.
He is the son of the late Dalil Uddin Matubbar of Purba Kakair area of Shiruail union in Shibchar upazila. According to family members, he was mentally unstable and often went missing from home.
Locals said they saw the body floating in the pond on Tuesday evening and informed the police. Later, members of the Nilkhi police outpost went to the spot and recovered the body.
His son Ibrahim Hossain said his father often disappeared from home.
The police’s initial suspicion is that he may have drowned while bathing in the pond. However, necessary legal procedures are being completed to confirm the actual cause of death.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Masrul, in-charge of Nilkhi police outpost, said, “The same person was seen roaming around here yesterday as well.”
