Due to lack of reforms, the road system across the country has collapsed. This is causing extreme hardship to people while commuting. On the other hand, accidents are increasing.
Saghata (Gaibandha) correspondent said that the Jumarbari Wapda road in Saghata upazila of Gaibandha has collapsed and vehicle movement is about to be stopped. Small vehicles are moving at risk. Residents of the area are facing accidents every day. Sometimes they try to prevent the landslide with sand, but it is not holding. It is known that the only road connecting Saghata upazila to Mokamtala in Bogra via Jumarbari, Sonatala has collapsed in about 10 kilometers of the Wapda dam from the Dak Bungalow to Jumarbari. The entrance to the dam from the Dak Bungalow to Jumarbari market collapses whenever it rains due to excessive use of sand in numerous places, private cultivation on one side, excessive vehicle pressure and lack of water drainage system on the dam.
LGED’s Saghata Upazila Engineer Md. Helalur Rahman said, “We have informed the higher authorities about the road collapse. In view of this, an inspection and measurement have been completed. The road will be permanently repaired.”
Rajibpur (Kurigram) representative said that due to lack of repair and maintenance for a long time, most of the roads in Char Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram have become in a bad condition. The road surface and potholes have formed in various places. This has disrupted the movement of vehicles and caused extreme suffering to the local residents.
Rashedul Islam, a local resident of Mohanganj Union, said that normal traffic is being disrupted due to the poor condition of the road in Patadahpara village. There are potholes and broken sections in some places, which are causing various problems for small vehicles. They fear that the public suffering will increase further if repairs are not done quickly. Turab Ali, a resident of Battala, said that the road from Battala bus stand to Baliamari market has become unusable. Repairs are needed at an urgent pace.
Dhunat (Bogra) representative said that carpeting and brick paving have been removed on the important Dhunat-Sonahata road in Bogra. Pedestrians and passengers have been suffering due to this. Pedestrians, passengers and vehicle drivers have been suffering due to the arrangement of paving bricks on the paved road in different parts. Such a situation has arisen in different parts of this road under the Roads and Highways Department.
It can be seen on the ground that people of different classes and professions, including school and college students, businessmen, farmers, and employees, travel on this road every day. In addition, various types of vehicles including trucks, buses, CNG, auto-rickshaws, and vans also travel regularly. Due to the lack of renovation for a long time, various parts of the road have been damaged. In some places, the asphalt and stones have come off, creating large potholes. As a result, even after a little rain, water accumulates in these potholes, making it difficult to travel. Dhunat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arif Ullah Nizami said that the concerned department has been contacted about the renovation of the road. Officials of the concerned department said that they will take necessary measures to solve this problem soon.
The Sribardi (Sherpur) representative said that the nearly three-kilometer road from Balijuri Bazar in Ranishimul Union, bordering Sribardi Upazila of Sherpur, to Rangajan Muktijoddha Smritstambh has been in a poor condition for a long time. Even a little rain causes water to accumulate at various places on the road, creating mud and waterlogging. As a result, thousands of people traveling on this road are facing extreme hardship. Meanwhile, the patrol activities of law enforcement members are also being hampered due to the inability of vehicles to ply on the road. Taking advantage of this opportunity, smugglers have chosen it as a safe route for smuggling drugs and Indian smuggled goods.
The MP from Sherpur-3 constituency is very active in the development of the road. He has already submitted a DO letter to the concerned senior officials for the renovation and development of the road.
