Former joint general secretary of the District Volunteer Party, Advocate Md. Nayan Mollah, has been accused of stealing the wife, children, money and gold ornaments of a Kuwaiti expatriate in Raipura, Narsingdi. The victim, Lutfar Rahman, has filed a written complaint with the Narsingdi Model Police Station, the Deputy Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police, the District Bar Association and the Bangladesh Bar Council.
The victim, expatriate Lutfar Rahman, made these allegations to the journalists present at the Narsingdi Press Club on Sunday evening (August 23). He is the son of Shahidul Haque of Hasnabad area of Raipura upazila. He had been working in Kuwait for 21 years. He got married to Hafsa Akhtar 14 years ago as a family. In their married life, they have a son named Md. Towhid (11) and a daughter named Tasmeem Akhtar (8).
Lutfar Rahman alleged that while filing a case in court over a land dispute, he met Nayan Molla, a member of the Narsingdi District Bar Association and leader of the District Volunteer Party. Although Lutfar wanted to be the plaintiff in the case, Nayan Molla cleverly got his wife Hafsa to be the plaintiff and took over as the lawyer. Using that opportunity, Nayan Molla seduced the expatriate’s wife and indulged in extramarital affairs and stole money and gold jewelry sent from abroad.
Lutfar, who learned about the matter while in Kuwait on August 3, tried unsuccessfully to contact his wife and children by phone from August 4. Later, suspecting the matter, he returned to the country on August 6. After returning home, he searched the rented house in Bank Colony of the city and found out that Advocate Nayan Molla and his wife Hafsa Akhter had been living in the house as husband and wife for about 7 months. Upon hearing that Lutfar was returning home, Nayan Molla disappeared with the expatriate’s wife, two children, his earnings of Tk 1.1 crore and 30 bhori of gold ornaments. Later, when Nayan Molla was asked to return his wife and children, money and gold ornaments on his mobile phone, he admitted the matter but refused to return the goods.
The complaint further states that Nayan Molla is the former legal assistant secretary of Narsingdi District Chhatra Dal and former joint general secretary of District Volunteer Dal. Using his influence, he took up the post of Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of Narsingdi Judge Court after August 5, 2024. He has also been accused of eloping with multiple wives and money from others and later driving them away.
Expatriate Lutfar Rahman said, “Courts and lawyers are the trust of the common people. If someone becomes a lawyer and is such a fraud and greedy person, where will people get justice? How is it possible for a lawyer to lure my wife and take her away in an inhumane way? They are now missing after stealing my hard-earned money and gold ornaments from abroad. I want justice from the countrymen.”
Denying the allegations in this regard, Advocate Nayan Molla claimed that all the allegations against him are false. Lutfar Rahman had tortured his wife Hafsa, so Hafsa divorced him. He denied taking money and claimed that he was not in hiding.
He further alleged that Lutfar, upon returning home, attacked his lawyer’s chamber with terrorists, evidence of which has been submitted to Narsingdi Model Police Station.
District Bar Association President Advocate Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan said that a written complaint has been received and the general secretary of the association has been given the responsibility of investigating the matter. If the complaint is proven, he will be expelled according to the organization’s rules. And if he is expelled from the association, his APP post will also be automatically cancelled.
Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station OC MR Al Mamun said that the police have received the written complaint from the expatriate. An investigation is underway into the matter and details will be available once the investigation is completed.
