One night during the last Ramadan, 10-year-old Adeeb Ahnaf left home to pray Tarawih. The family thought he would return after the prayers. But as the night wore on, he never returned. The next morning, his frozen body was found in a grassy field in the village. His own belt was wrapped around his neck. There were injury marks on his body.
The police were unable to solve the mystery surrounding the murder, which has been discussed and shrouded in mystery for more than three months. There were no eyewitnesses to the incident, no clear source. As a result, the case gradually became known as a ‘clueless’ murder. The family of the deceased child and the local people have held programs several times. Finally, after a long investigation, the Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police has claimed to identify the reason behind the murder and the person involved. The police have arrested a 14-year-old teenager involved in the murder.
The deceased, Adib Ahnaf, was the son of Mostafizur Rahman, a drug dealer from Bildharmapur village of Karnahar police station in Paba upazila under Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Station. He was a fourth-grade student of a local school.
Detective police sources said that Adib Ahnaf left his home on the night of March 1 to offer Tarawih prayers. His body was recovered from a grass field in the village’s Koichapukur area the next morning. Family members have filed a murder case against unknown persons in this incident.
After being given the responsibility of the investigation, a DB team started a shadow investigation into the incident with the help of information technology, intelligence information and secret sources. At one stage of the long investigation, a 14-year-old teenager was arrested on charges of involvement in the murder. According to the police, the teenager confessed to the murder during interrogation and later in a confessional statement given in court.
The investigation revealed that the murder was committed out of personal grudge against a girl. Police say that Adeeb witnessed a girl having a physical relationship with the accused teenager. Upon learning of the matter, Adeeb informed the girl’s mother. Later, when the girl’s mother informed the accused teenager’s mother about the incident, she beat her son. The teenager planned to kill Adeeb to avenge the incident.
According to the police, on the night of the incident, on the way to Tarawih prayers, the accused teenager took Adeeb to a secluded place. There, he was first hit on the head. Later, he was killed by suffocating him. After confirming his death, he left the body behind. The teenager was arrested in a raid last Sunday. When he was produced in court yesterday, he gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Spokesperson and Deputy Police Commissioner (Media) Md. Gaziur Rahman said, the victim child came to know about an incident of the accused teenager. Later, when this incident became known, there was anger over the matter. Then, the teenager planned and killed the child alone.
