The government is going to introduce four new subjects at the primary and secondary levels in the next academic year (2027) with emphasis on enjoyable education, sports, culture and technical education. Of these, two will be added in the fourth grade and two more compulsory subjects from the sixth grade. At the same time, the government has also announced plans to implement the new curriculum from 2028.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s education advisor Mahdi Amin gave this information at a press conference organized at the Secretariat on Monday to highlight various initiatives of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on the occasion of the government’s 180-day education program.
The 2027 SSC exam will begin on January 7 of that year. The exam will end on February 6, 2027. The HSC will begin on June 6 of that year and will continue until July 13.
Four topics that will be covered
The interim government formed after the 2024 student-public uprising moved away from the new curriculum that was in effect at the time and began revising the books in light of the 2012 curriculum. At the same time, poems, essays, and prose on the July Uprising were added to the Bengali and English textbooks for grades 5 to 9-10 in 2025. Later, the content of the July Uprising was added as part of history in the current year’s textbooks for grades 6, 7, 8, and 9-10, Bangladesh and World Introduction. It also includes content on the 1990s mass uprising.
Now, the government is going to make changes to history and skill-based subjects in the textbooks for the next academic year (2027). In addition to adding some new subjects to the books Bangladesh and World Introduction and Bangladesh History and World Civilization at the secondary level, extensive revisions are also being made to some books. Books for various classes at the primary and secondary levels have already been revised. However, these revisions are only for next year’s books. Four new subjects are being added next year.
In this regard, Prime Minister’s Advisor Mahdi Amin said in today’s press conference, “Necessary changes will be made in education as soon as possible. There is a part of the curriculum where necessary additions, deletions and revisions will have to be made. Along with this, some new subjects are being added. According to the plan, sports will be added from the fourth grade. Another subject called culture will also be added from the fourth grade.”
Apart from this, the advisor said that two subjects are being added from the sixth grade, one is technical and vocational education and the other is ‘Learning with Happiness’. He mentioned that these will be compulsory subjects.Read more
SSC and equivalent exam results 2026 July 20
The advisor said, “On the one hand, ‘Learning with Happiness’ will be a subject. Apart from that, students will be developed as good citizens through its value principles. Along with this, the issue of teaching and training of teachers will also be included in this ‘Learning with Happiness’ course.”
The advisor said that there are plans to include a major section in the existing framework to teach students a third language. The advisor also said that the curriculum and education system are being reorganized as much as possible under the direct instructions of the Prime Minister.
New curriculum in 2028
Responding to a question about when the four new subjects will be introduced, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon, who was present at the press conference, said that changing the curriculum is not possible in three months. First, it is being given from 2027 after proper revision and realistic understanding. And work has also started on the expectation of changing the entire curriculum. This will be seen from 2028. The education minister also said that the curriculum will be made with emphasis on achieving learning outcomes.
The government’s plan is to start implementing a new curriculum from 2028. The work of formulating the outline for formulating this curriculum is going to start soon. However, it has not yet been finalized whether the new curriculum will be implemented in all classes from 2028, or whether it will be implemented in stages.
A few days ago, a senior official of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board told Prothom Alo that textbooks are revised more or less every year. Now that the new government has come to power, the revision is taking into account the promises made in their election manifesto.
SSC results on July 20—
At a press conference, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said that the results of the 2026 SSC and equivalent examinations will be published on July 20. Necessary instructions have been given to those concerned in this regard.
This year’s SSC and equivalent examinations began on April 21. The written examination will continue till May 20. Now the practical examination is underway. The practical examination will continue till June 14. This year, a total of more than 18 lakh 57 thousand candidates took the SSC under 9 general education boards, Dakhil under Madrasa Education Board and SSC and Dakhil (vocational) examinations under Technical Education Board.
It has already been announced that the 2027 SSC and equivalent examinations will begin on January 7 of that year. The examinations will end on February 6, 2027. In addition, next year’s (2027) HSC and equivalent examinations will begin on June 6 of that year and will continue until July 13.
In response to a question on this matter, the Education Minister said, in discussions with stakeholders, it was suggested that the SSC exams should be completed before the holy month of Ramadan (next year). Accordingly, he wants to start the exams on January 7. However, the response is also being monitored. However, for now, the schedule has been given, that remains the same and he hopes that it will remain the same.
