Inadequate parking facilities and encroachment of vehicles on roads in front of many private hospitals, clinics and diagnostics in Chittagong city have been identified. This has been identified as one of the reasons for the increasing traffic congestion in the city. On Monday afternoon, a high-powered team of the Chittagong Development Authority (CWA) inspected the site and identified these irregularities. The institutions were warned on the first day.
During the inspection, there were irregularities at Chittagong Metropolitan Hospital – although there is a parking system, not enough cars are going to the parking lot. Therefore, necessary measures were asked to be taken. The Royal Hospital has constructed a hospital with the approval of a commercial building. They do not have adequate parking. The Medical Center has also constructed a hospital with the approval of a commercial building. Insufficient parking, there are dustbins in the parking lot and there are cylinders in a dangerous manner. Moreover, the CSCR Hospital has failed to present their design immediately.
Present during the inspection were Chowk Chief Engineer Ahmed Anwarul Nazrul, Supervising Engineer AGM. Selim, Executive Engineer Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Authorized Officer-1 Kazi Quader Newaz, Authorized Officer-2 Tanjib Hossain and others.
After the inspection, Chowk Chief Engineer Ahmed Anwarul Nazrul said, “We are collecting various information and data, verifying the design and actual condition of each institution. Various irregularities have been found. However, if any decision is taken hastily, patients admitted to the hospital may be deprived of healthcare. Therefore, the concerned hospitals have been warned for the time being. The next decision will be taken after discussing with the hospital authorities very soon.”
Chowk Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain said, “It is sad to see the irregularities of private hospitals. Almost none of the hospitals have provided adequate parking facilities. They are conducting business commercially outside the CDA design and without providing parking facilities. They themselves know very well that they have violated some of the CDA laws. So I want to make it clear – they should immediately develop adequate parking facilities on their own initiative. Because the partial parking system is an eyewash. It will not work. Otherwise, strict legal action will be taken against them.” He said, “CDA, City Corporation, WASA, CMP and other service organizations have agreed that the traffic congestion in this city will be resolved at any cost. We are determined to keep this city free of garbage. Therefore, no one will be spared in the matter of alleviating the suffering of the city residents. We will keep the matter under close observation. Our high-powered team has visited various private hospitals in the city and seen their overall picture. Hospitals that do not have parking facilities have been warned.” If the parking arrangement is not visible according to the size of the hospital during the next inspection, strict legal action will be taken directly without hearing any excuses.
