The wife of Khurshid Alam, Chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, has a defaulted loan, according to the central bank.
Bangladesh Bank spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan confirmed the information to journalists on Tuesday.
Officials said the loan, taken in the name of the chairman’s wife’s business, amounts to Tk 3 crore from First Security Islami Bank PLC and has remained unpaid for a long period, making it a classified loan.
However, it could not be confirmed whether Khurshid Alam himself is a guarantor of the loan.
The disclosure comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding governance and financial transparency in the country’s banking sector.
