Araghchi calls France’s role hypocritical

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has criticized France and other Western countries for criticizing Tehran’s role in suppressing domestic protests in Iran.

He alleges that although these countries are vocal about the human rights situation in Iran, they are not taking any effective action against Israel’s war crimes and human rights violations in the Middle East.

In a post on social media, Aragchi said that countries like France should stop educating the world about ‘human rights’ and international law. Their hypocrisy is clear and embarrassing.

Araghchi also said that Western countries’ support for Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza and aggression against Iran has destroyed their claim to moral standing.

The Iranian foreign minister’s remarks came after a French announcement. France said on Wednesday that the European Union (EU) and 20 other countries had issued a joint statement condemning the execution of protesters in Iran.

The statement called on Iran to take meaningful steps to ensure respect for human rights, including ending the use of the death penalty and releasing those arbitrarily detained.

Araghchi’s comments come amid tensions between Tehran and Western countries over internal protests in Iran and the government’s actions to suppress them.
