Mehedi Hasan Miraz has written his name in the history books along with his brilliant performance with the ball in the Darwin Test. The Bangladesh all-rounder reached a unique milestone in the World Test Championship by taking crucial wickets in Australia’s second innings.
Miraj completed the milestone of 100 wickets in the World Test Championship by taking the fourth wicket of Pat Cummins in Australia’s second innings. He also became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to complete the double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets in the tournament.
Only four players have achieved this feat in the World Test Championship before: India’s Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, Australia’s Pat Cummins and England’s Chris Woakes. Miraj’s name has now joined them as the fifth cricketer.
Miraj’s wicket tally is now 100 after playing 32 matches in the World Test Championship. He has scored 1436 runs with the bat. Taijul Islam, however, had already achieved the feat of becoming the first Bangladeshi cricketer to take 100 wickets in this competition. Miraj became the second bowler from Bangladesh to reach this milestone.
Mirage has also been in fine form in the ongoing Test. After dismissing Steven Smith with a combination of ball and catch on the third day, he dismissed Alex Carey, Beau Webster and Pat Cummins on the fourth day. The off-spinner has taken four wickets in Australia’s second innings so far.
Miraj has made important contributions for the team not only with the ball but also with the bat. He played a useful innings of 65 runs in Bangladesh’s first innings. His batting with the tailenders played a crucial role in Bangladesh getting a big lead.
This is not the first major milestone for Miraz in his international Test career. He has now taken 223 wickets in 59 Tests. He has taken five wickets in an innings 14 times and 10 wickets in a match three times. He has amassed 2296 runs with the bat at an average of 24.17.
Miraj is now one of the mainstays of Bangladesh’s historic win in Darwin. This unique feat in the World Test Championship is added to his excellent performance with both bat and ball.
