A private car was crushed by a train while crossing an unguarded railway crossing in Bijoynagar, Brahmanbaria. A passenger named Mir Saiful Islam Saad (24) was killed in the incident. The driver of the private car, Md. Tanim Ahmed, was injured.
The accident occurred near Mukundapur Railway Station in the upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased, Saiful Islam Saad, is the son of the late Mir Helal Mia of Chanmoni Para in Sarail Upazila Sadar. He ran a cloth business called ‘Saiful Gallery’ in Sarail’s afternoon market. The injured driver, Tanim Ahmed, is the son of Saidul Haque of Baglahati area in the same upazila.
Akhaura Railway Police Station OC Abdul Quddus said that the private car carrying Saiful was going from Bijoynagar towards Sarail. While crossing an unprotected level crossing in Mukundapur area, the car got stuck on the railway line. At that time, the Paharika Express, which was going from Sylhet to Chittagong, hit the private car forcefully.
The private car was twisted and Saiful and the driver Tanim were seriously injured. Later, locals rescued them and took them to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared Saiful dead.
The OC also said that there is no gateman at the level crossing at the accident site. Upon receiving the information, the Railway Police visited the scene. Necessary legal action is being taken in this incident.
