Two people have died after a military helicopter crashed in central Texas, the US state of Texas. The helicopter crashed in a field south of the village of Salado, Texas. Police responded to the scene after reports of debris.
Two people were found dead there. The US military said the crashed helicopter was an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter. It was stationed at the nearby Fort Hood military base. Fort Hood is one of the largest US military bases.
Bell County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cliff Coleman said officers arrived at the scene and found the helicopter had crashed and a large fire, adding that the fire was “getting out of control very quickly.”
The US military said the incident is under investigation and emergency rescue efforts are continuing.
“Our immediate priority is to secure the scene and assist with initial rescue efforts,” said Brigadier General Ethan Devane, acting commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division.
According to the US Army, the AH-64 Apache is a twin-engine, four-bladed multi-role attack helicopter capable of conducting armed surveillance, frontal combat, mobile attack, and vertical tactical operations.
