An important X-ray machine has been broken for a long time in the Goalanda Upazila Health Complex of Rajbari. Due to this inoperative machine for about one and a half years, medical services are being disrupted and patients are suffering. At the same time, the situation has become more complicated as the post of Medical Technician (Radiology) has also been vacant for a long time. According to hospital sources, an average of more than four hundred patients come to this 50-bed health complex for treatment every day.
The Japanese-made Ekomma-100 model analog X-ray machine here was installed in 1985. Although the machine was initially functional, it later broke down repeatedly due to various mechanical faults. Although it was somehow kept operational through repairs, it became completely ineffective on March 25 last year.
The post of Medical Technician (Radiology) has also been vacant since the same time. The post has not been filled for a long time and the X-ray service has been closed due to lack of initiative to repair the machine. As a result, patients are forced to go to different clinics and diagnostic centers outside the hospital to get the necessary tests as per the doctor’s advice, which has caused them additional suffering and expenses. Some of the affected patients said that instead of getting services at government hospitals, they have to go outside and spend extra money to get X-rays. The common people are the ones who are suffering the most.
In this regard, Goalanda Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Maruf Hasan said, there is no modern digital X-ray machine here. The old analog machine has become useless and the post of radiology technician is also vacant. The matter has been reported to the higher authorities and efforts are being made to take necessary measures.
