A pickup van collided with a Sylhet-bound Paharika Express train in Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong. No one was injured in the accident. However, train services on the Dhaka-Chittagong railway line were suspended for about an hour in the area due to the accident. The accident occurred at around 8:55 am on Sunday in the Madhyam Sonapahar area of ​​Zorarganj union of the upazila.

Railway officials and local residents said that there is a hilly area on the eastern side of the railway line in that area. A pickup van was illegally transporting sand from there and crossing the railway line. At that time, the pickup van collided with the Sylhet-bound Paharika Express leaving Chittagong. However, the driver escaped by jumping out of the vehicle just before the accident.

Local resident Habibur Rahman told Prothom Alo, “I heard a loud noise and came to the scene of the accident and saw that a pickup van carrying sand had been smashed to pieces after being hit by a mountain train. After the accident, the mountain train left without stopping.”

When asked, Joydev Shil, Assistant Executive Engineer in charge of the Feni area of ​​the Railway Eastern Zone, told Prothom Alo, “The accident occurred when a pickup van crossed the railway line through an illegal crossing. An investigation committee will be formed into the incident. In addition, initiatives will be taken to stop illegal crossing through that place.”
